You might be surprised to know that Dothan is known as the "Peanut Capital of the World if you did not know that almost half of all the peanuts that the United States produces are grown in the general area. Dothan's famous National Peanut Festival, held at the Dothan Alabama Fairgrounds in late October and early November, besides celebrating the year's harvest includes beauty pageants, agricultural displays, and an arts and crafts show. Dothan Area Botanical Gardens covers close to 50 acres of cultivated gardens, nature trails and undeveloped, wooded landscape. Visitors are treated to the horticultural beauty of flowering plants, demonstration gardens, preserved wetlands and rose gardens.
