SR 86 and SR 17 meet in a ring in the center of Carrollton.

With the Pickens County jail located in Carrollton, some of the towns residents have an opportunity to meet some of the unsavory characters in the county. The Carrollton Courthouse has a legend associated with it. After the second courthouse was burned to the ground; arson was suspected. When the third courthouse was completed a freed slave was accused of being the arsonist and incarcerated in the garret of the new building. While he was looking out his window at the crowd hoping to lynch him; a bolt of lighting struck nearby and forever etched his agonized face in the courthouse window.
