ABOUT THE AREA
It is believed that Upper Saddle River got it's name from 2 Scotsmen who thought the area looked like the Saddle Burn in their homeland. Some say it might have also been because Saddle River flows through this borough. The borough was predominantly rural till 1950 with farming as the major occupation. The population grew exponentially between 1950 and 1980 from a mere 300 to nearly 7000. Today, Upper Saddle River has a hospital, several shopping malls, and the usual public services. Many corporate firms in Upper Saddle River are located on or right off Route 17. Other major routes in the vicinity are I-287, Route 502 and GSP.
