Hartford City is the county seat. It started with a few log cabins along Lick Creek. The discovery of natural gas in the 1880's (Indiana Gas Boom) added manufacturing to this small farming community. Today Key Plastics and 3M are the leading employer. Sports is a major form of entertainment. The high school gym seats 4,000 - half of the town's population.
