US 49E and US 82 skirt the Western and Southern borders of the town and SR 7, which also curves around the Southern border, and SR 430 run along the Eastern edge edge of the town.
ABOUT THE AREA
Fort Pemberton, which lies just West of Greenwood, played a pivotal role in the Civil War. This fort whose construction of cotton bales covered with earth; was built to halt General Ulysses S. Grant’s advance. Greenwood’s Cottonlandia Museum displays a model of the 1863 battle at Fort Pemberton. The museums exhibits include Mississippi artwork and articles representative of local, military, and agricultural history as well as a terrific collection of Native American artifacts.
