SR 28 runs through town to meet SR 35 coming up from the South.

The town was established in the early 1800's followed by the erection and establishment of a post office. The railroad came to town at the beginning of the 20th century. Small groups of people settled in the area to take advantage of the plentiful game and fresh running water. Another inducement was the granting of the land from the Federal Government for homesteading to veterans. These people grew produce and watermelons. Today the area is famous for its sweet watermelons. To celebrate the sweet watermelon crop a watermelon festival is held annually in July. If you come to the festival at the Mize City Park; you can sit on your lawn chairs in the shade and sample the delicious, ripe, world famous melons. If you attend this two day affair you can also enjoy the live music and be present at the selection of the largest watermelon and even bid to buy it.
