The mouth of the Pascagoula River Basin is known as Singing River for its mysterious music which sounds like a swarm of bees in flight. You can usually hear this music late evenings during the late summer and autumn months. It is at this spot that a homestead built in the 1860's still stands and epitomizes the city that was established in those years. Live oaks line more than 70 miles of waterfront in this city on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Gautier recently completed an annexation process tripling the size of the city to an area over 32 square miles in size. Shepard State Park is located in the Singing River section on the Pascagoula River.
