SR 12 makes a "tee" with US 51 before they proceed together through town.
ABOUT THE AREA
The town which started near his home on the Big Black River was named for the Durant who served beneath General Andrew Jackson in The Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. The actual establishment of the city did not take place until the 1850's when it became a station on the Mississippi Central Railroad. The
brick depot which replaced the original depot at the same site still remains in place to this day.
