Where SR 31 meets Main street and runs South with it can be found the heart of town.

Melvern lake about 4 miles West of town was built as a reservoir by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It offers many opportunbities for boating and fishing. Eisenhower State Park, a Kansas State Park, is on the North shore of the lake. It has over 1,700 acres of rolling hills and roughly 18 miles of trails. Facilities in the park include sites for camping, a playground, a beach, horse shoe pits, a sand volley ball court, frisbee disk golf, boat slips, and a basketball court. This is a wonderful park for camping with over 180 utility campsites and 5 shower houses as well as sites for primitive camping, Equestrian Campsites with electric, water and individual corrals and sites for group camping.
