SR 99 crosses US 50 in the center of the city and meets IS 35 in the Northern part where the interstate loops around this part of town.

Emporia's 18 parks, covering close to 250 acres, offer many forms of recreation from tennis and disc golf to basketball, bocce ball and fishing ponds. There is even an amphitheater, nature trails and covered picnic shelters. Largest among thes parks are Peter Pan Park, Jones Youth Recreation Park, Hammond Park, and Soden's Grove Park. This last park is the home of the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia which has on exhibit various species of reptiles, mammals, amphibians and bird. The fairly new Jones Aquatic Center has among its facilities slides, sprinkling waterfalls, aquatic basketball and a lazy river.
