US 56 takes a nice turn through Herington before meeting up with US 77 at the Eastern edge of town.

There are two nice museums to visit in town; the Tri-County Historical Society Museum in Fairgrounds Park and the Railroad Museum, which is in a historic baggage car. The historical museum has exhibits which are the epitome of attic storage pieces. This museum also has Herington newspapers on microfilm, dating from 1884-1996, a number of family histories from some of the first families of Herington and a large collection of military uniforms and memorabilia, dating from post-Civil War through Desert Storm. The train museum holds pictures and memorabilia recording the history of the railroad in the area. After you've been to the museums you might want to drop in at Boellings Drugstore for a malted or sundae served at the classic soda fountain.
