SR 111 enters Kanopolis in the North as East F street.

Kanopolis started life as Fort Harker which was one of the most important military stations west of the Missouri River. When Fort Harker outlived its use as a military installation, it was sold and became Kanopolis which was so named because it was seen as the Central Metropolis of the state. The Kanopolis Land Company laid outa city for 150,000 people. By the year 1890 the city had two large hotels, a hardware store, roller mill, woolen mills, foundry and irons works, carriage works, an earthenware works, an elevator, the Union Pacific depot, three churches and a school. Although the city never grew to the size envisioned for it; it prospered nevertheless.
