ABOUT THE AREA
Around 1854, a settler drove stakes and claimed the Kickapoo Chief Wathena's land as his own. Approximatelt two years later a group of men bought the land from this early settler and also paid
Chief Wathena for the land he had cleared resulting in a townsite of about 160 acres. The city lies along the Missouri river. The Wathena city pool is just the place to go on a hot summer day.
