US 77, from the South, meets SR 9 in Wateerville before turning East.

After 1905, when travelers on the Central Branch Union Pacific Railroad alighting in Waterville found a welcome and warm sight in the Weaver hotel; which sat across the street from the railroad tracks. Although the hotel is known as a landmark of railroad history, when railroad travel dwindled the hotel sat quietly empty for years until the the Waterville Preservation Society purchased the building. With the help of grants and the hard work of many Waterville citizens, the Weaver Hotel has been given a new face-lift inside and out and is again welcoming guests. There are two shows held in town which should be of interest to those who are fans of vehicles of transportation. The local Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Waterville Kansas Wooden Nickel Day Car & Motorcycle Show held each May and the Planes, Trains and Automobiles Show held on the streets and fields in town in September.
