ABOUT THE AREA
This is a small town, but at one time Buffalo roamed the surrounding area in great numbers. Hence the name Bison, which originally was called Buffalo. Settlers first came to the town in the late 1870's, but the town got its official start when the the Missouri-Pacific Railroad came in the 1880's. No mistaking what town you are in when you stroll the streets; all of the street signs have the Bison image shown on them.
