US 50 and US 199 parallel each other as they run through Grafton.

Grafton was first settled late in the 17th century by an Irish immigrant familyand their land was surveyed by none other than our first president, George Washington. Around 1835, a new arrival to the area purchased a portion of the family's land. Almost 17 years later the Baltimore and Ohio railroad came to the area. When Grafton became a railroad town one year later; its economy, with several residences and stores built, was based on the development of the railroad. When the number of railroad facilities increased, land was surveyed for the new town. The Memorial Day celebration may have started in this town when it held a "Flower Strewing Day", to honor those who served the community and our country during the Civil War. There are 8 parks in the city of Grafton operated by the city and the Taylor County Board of Education including Grafton Municipal pool and Castle Creek playground.
