SR 92 running together with US 250 through town is the only major road in town.

Because of a mid 19th century flood along the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; a German immigrant family became disheartened and left their holdings there to come to the Tygarts Valley where they bought land equal to their previous holdings. The family also built a mill on the site. After other settlers joined them establishing the community, which was now called Rowtown, discovery of Homewood sandstone a hard geologic stratum led to the local quarrying industry which continued until about 1900. The opening of coal mines in the area just before the turn of the century replaced quarrying as the main source of the local economy and about the same time the town changed its name to Junior.
