Wheeling has 36 neighborhood playgrounds and ball fields; 11 of which are playgrounds. There are also four city pools for everyone's Summer swimming enjoyment. A city 10,000-square-foot skatepark, with bowls and street elements, and the Nelson Jordan Training Center, with training in boxing, kick boxing, and Jiu-Jitsu provided in its gym, are other recreational facilities in this city. Over 18 miles of the Wheeling Heritage Trails; a paved walking and bicycle trail runs through the city. The Ohio River Trail running North-South, starts at the city line in South Wheeling, then reaches the Pike Island Dam and continues into Brooke County. If you take the East-West Wheeling Creek Trail, you can cross the Hempfield Viaduct above the creek and run into the Hempfield Tunnel.
