SR 62 runs through Hartford.

The founders of the town were two eastern capitalists who came here to develop the salt industry and named the city for their home city of Hartford, Connecticut. The industry is still a significant part of the city's economy. The first salt furnace was put into operation in this city around 1856 about the same time as a coal mine was opened. This city with its population of just over 600 makes this a small town but it is a comfortable place to live. In its 1 1/4 miles the people are close even though they are not the richest of people with a per capita income estimated to be under $17,000.
