COMMENTS
Huntington is well served by some good roads. Sr 106 crosses the Ohio river. SR 2, SR 10, SR 101, SR 527, US 52 and US 60 are available to the city's residents and IS 64 lies just to the South.
ABOUT THE AREA
The Savage Grant issued by King George III gave land along the Ohio river to a group of men who fought in the French and Indian war. Although none of the men settled on this land, which is present day Huntington, and the land to the South; a settler purchased a portion of the land around 1785. His son built a house overlooking the Ohio river around 1800 and later his descendants sold the land, destined to become Huntington to the gentleman who gave the town its name. The first locomotive of the C & O railroad arrived at Huntington in the 1860's. The Heritage farm museum and Village is a great place to get a feeling for the history of the area. There are small inns here for overnight stays and the Progress, Transportation and Mill, Industry, Heritage and Country Store museums on the property. There are other working exhibits as well including the Steam Tractors, Saw Mill & Shingle Mill, Appalachian Hall and Activity Barn, Blacksmith shop, Kress/Conway Pioneer Homestead cabin and One-Room Schoolhouse.
