If you are going anywhere from Northfork you would be taking US 52 which runs through the town.

Northfork during the heyday of coal mining was not much different than any number of towns in this area with its coal miners' homes, company stores, company offices, railroad yards and other structures that were the coal mining and producing representatives. Rails ran through the downtown and company housing stood in long rows. Beginning in the 1950's unemployed miners and their families left, but over 400 people remain in this town and their estimated per capita income remains quite low. The first African American woman elected to the West Virginia legislature came from this town and served in that body for 14 years.
