ABOUT THE AREA
Rainelle was originally chartered around 1913 and named for family members of prominent lumber manufacturers of this area. It was merged with the town of East Rainelle in 1969, and is now operating under a charter granted to that city in the 1920's. It was the home of the largest hardwood sawmill in the world from 1910 to 1970. The nine hole Greenbrier Hills Golf Club course is located on the West side of this town.
