US 50 which passes just to the South of Barrackville intersects with CR 250/32 which passes through town.
ABOUT THE AREA
Barrackville was not given its name because of the early presence of any barracks, rather it was named for one of the early settlers, a blacksmith whose shop was located near the site of the present post office. Another settler to the area received a land grant of approximately 340 acres at the site of Barrackville around 1785 and which he had founded several years earlier. There are still three houses in town that were built around this time. By the time the 1850's arrived, Barrackville had been a thriving town for some time. There was a grist mill, hominy mill and sawmill that drew trade from miles around and the blacksmith shop was busy shoeing horses and oxen, making oxen yokes and repairing wagons. At the same town there a covered bridge, built of stone, spanned Buffalo Creek and exists to this day as well as being on the National Register of Historical Places.
