SR 6 separates the upper two thirds of the city from the lower third and meets BR US 65 in the Eastern part of town and US 65 on the Eastern edge of town.

The city was not always known as Trenton; first known as Lomax Store and Bluff Grove it was was incorporated around 1857. North Central Missouri College is an institution in Trenton which offers programs in Accounting, Agriculture, Applied Technology, Business Administration, Business Technology, Criminal Justice, Education and Health Care leading to the Associate in Applied Science degree as well as certificates in some of these fields and the Associate in Arts degree in Teaching. The school also serves the community by offering programs in Continuing Education, Business/Industry Employee Training, Adult Education & Literacy, High School Dual Credit, Tech Prep and Upward Bound. The school is also a source of athletic entertainment for the community; fielding teams in men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball.
