Platte Woods is graced by IS 29 and US 71 running together though its Eastern section and SR 9 passes through just West of the center of town.

In the early part of 1846, a settler to this area was granted 160 acres to which was added an additional 160 acres when he married. A few years prior to this he built a manor house and a two-room stone cabin where his slaves lived. The manor house has not survived, destroyed by fire, but the stone cabin has and is believed to be one of the oldest dwellings in Platte County. After large parcels of the land had been sold twice over; the owner of the property contracted with Kansas City Power and Light to supply electricity to the area. The Platte Woods Improvement Association was chartered around 1938 and governed until the area was incorporated as a village at the end of 1946 and a few years later as a Fourth Class city.
