COMMENTS
Columbia is criss-crossed by some major roads; among them are IS 70, US 63, SR 163, SR 763, SR B and SR WW.
ABOUT THE AREA
In this city of over 108,000 people there are some fine art galleries and museums. There is the Columbia Art League Gallery, Davis Art Gallery, the official Stephens College Gallery of Art, The George Caleb Bingham Gallery at the fine arts center of Missouri University, the Larson Art Gallery in Brown Hall at Columbia College, the Montminy Gallery in the Walters-Boone County Historical Museum and the State Historical Society of Missouri Gallery. The The Museum of Anthropology exhibit hall is in Swallow Hall on historic Francis Quadrangle of the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The museum exhibits include archaeological and ethnographic artifacts that detail Missouri's prehistory and that of most of the country. The Museum of Art & Archaeology in Pickard Hall at the University of Missouri-Columbia displays its collection representative of all periods from Paleolithic to present and from six continents. The Walters-Boone County Historical museum reminds one of a traditional wood-hewn family farmhouse with its weathered boards and broad porches. Its exhibits are representative of Boone County's heritage, its history of banking, farming, insurance and medicine, and its role in education as the home of the University of Missouri. Exhibits tell the story of westward expansion along the Boonslick Trace and preserve the memory of the pioneers who settled in the heart of Missouri. The Wilbur Enns Entomology museum is really amazing. It holds over 6 million specimens of insects, arachnids and fossils from the Ozark Plateau, Midwest and some exotic specimens. Its purpose is really research and so only a small number of these are on display.
