COMMENTS
The traffic court in Philadelphia is the only one like it in the State. Tickets in the rest of the state are generally handled by District Justice courts.
Funny thing in the paper, 4/13/07, that more than half the candidates for judge in this court owe parking fines, some over $1000. See the Philadelphia Daily News for April 13, 2007.
Seems like a lot of people abbreviate Philadelphia as Phila, so this is also known as the Phila Traffic Court. Enough people find the court to complain -- see the comments below.
One commenter suggests this number: 215-686-1671. Another suggests: 686-1673
And then there's Judge Mulgrew's 2012 indictment.
ABOUT THE AREA
A great city with tremendous history. Well over a million people. Historic site of much involved with the revolution of the colonies against England, our constitution, and the founding of our country. They have some fine sports teams too, with Julius Erving (Dr. J) probably the city's greatest athlete of all time.
JUDGES
There are 7 judges in this Court
PROSECUTORS
It is our general impression that police prosecute their own tickets in Philadelphia Traffic Court, but there may also be an attorney prosecutor, and there is some chance you can negotiate your ticket with the District Attorney. The DA also handles cases where the defendant has been arrested. Boy they are tough on traffic cases in Philly.
TYPE OF CASES
Traffic cases. Special courts for motions, drag racing, and overweight violations. Philadelphia Traffic Court does NOT handle parking tickets.
