COMMENTS
Both SR C and SR J cross US 71 which runs on a slant through Peculiar and SR YY comes in to town from the Northwest.
ABOUT THE AREA
There is nothing peculiar about Peculiar, it was a name bestowed it on by the postmaster. Around 1868 the county surveyor laid out the town with lots, blocks and streets but the city was not incorporated until the 1950's. The Downtown Peculiar Arts & Culture District maintains the character of the downtown section of the city. This group also sponsors the annual Clara Brierly Festival of the Arts held the second weekend in June. This event features music, dancing, art, demonstrations and food. There are live performances by individual artists, groups and dance groups.
