IS 270 runs through Hazelwood and IS 170 meets it in the Southeast corner of town.

First came the French explorers, settling in the area in the late 1600's, then the Spanish settlers in the late 1700's. Just before the end of the 18th century, a group of settlers from Virginia, Kentucky and the Deep South came by wagon train. In the fall of 1949, Hazelwood was incorporated as a village becoming a city some 20 years later. The city Sports complex has several ball fields, room for soccer fields, a pavilion and concession building. Two other facilities are available to residents. The Community Center is equipped with a gymnasium, game room, weight room and meeting rooms. The Civic Center East has a gymnasium, suspended walking and jogging track, fitness center, multi-purpose rooms and a parking garage. The city operates an outdoor Skate/BMX Park which is illuminated and has ramps, a half pipe, and a variety of skate/BMX obstacles. The city sponsors a free "Summer Concert Series" at Truman Park, held one Saturday a month from May to September.
