ABOUT THE AREA
Jennings was named after a Virginian farmer and merchant who moved with his wife Anne, their seven children and 40 slaves to the outskirts of St. Louis around 1839. Approximately 16 years later the North Missouri Railroad bisected his property and a few years later most of his heirs sold their property. Around 1883 when the Seed Dry Plate Company opened it was a stimulus to the local economy. After World War II people in the area were living the American dream with new cars, homes, appliances and jobs. The city filed for incorporation around 1946, including the communities of Jenwood, and Woodland, as the city of Jennings. Sievers park, Koenemen park and the Tharp Civic center cater to the recreational needs of the townspeople.
