IS 170 crosses two small sections of St. John which jut out to the East. Hearings for city ordinance and traffic violations in the Village of Sycamore Hills are held by this court.

In the middle of the 19th century several enterprising people purchased land along St. Charles Rock Road in the area that is St. John. One of them started the St. Charles Ferry Company and in the 1870's built the first important building in St. John. It was not until the mid 1940's that the the residents of St. John voted to incorporate as a village. Several years later the Village of St. John increased its size by annexing three unincorporated areas, one to the east and two to the west. In the 1960's St. John became a Charter City and consolidated with Marvin Terrace, Elmdale and Margona Village. The city has three public parks; Home Heights, St. John and Reed which is a pocket park created out of two donated house lots. The facilties are limited in these parks to pavilions, playgrounds and walking trails. Endicott park, a small county park is also located in St. John.
