SR 141 separates Valley Park into Eastern and Western sections.

Valley Park was founded towards the end of the 19th century about the time that the Missouri Pacific and the Saint Louis – San Francisco railroads came to town. The establishment of a glass factory and other industries led to a boom in housing construction and the economy of the town. The railroads made many stops in town and there was barge traffic on the Meramec River. The city has several parks in addition to Simpson Park and Lake which are located within the city limits, however are part of the Saint Louis County Park system. The city parks are Vance Trails, Leonard, Brignole, Wedge, Frisco Park which has a 1935 Frisco Caboose in it and Meramec Landing. The recent completion of levees along the Meramec River has made it possible to add a trail to the Ozark Greenway Trails for hiking and biking.
