SR 8 and SR 21 run through Potosi.

There was a lead mining settlement here somewhere between 1760 and 1780. Then another settler who came to the area with his family before the end of the 18th century, realized that in the hills here was the richest known lead deposit in the world. He applied for and received a land grant of approximately 7100 acres from the Spanish Empire. He and his son then started large scale mining operations, building his town, which he called Potosí for Potosí in Bolivia, which was famous for its vast silver mines, to support it. The Mine Au Breton Historical Society conducts tours of its museum, which has exhibits of mining and home life as well as displays of a sleigh and loom and Austin-Milam-Lucas Store with exhibits of mining, photographs, library tools, quilts and furniture.
