Several major roads are present in Springfield; IS 44, IS 44 Bypass, US 65, US 65 Bypass, SR YY, SR 13 and SR 744.

Springfield's Commercial Street Historic district runs between Washington and Lyon avenues. To get the fell of the history stroll through these street, cross the Jefferson Avenue footbridge or visit a chocolate factory that imports and roasts its own beans. These six blocks are the streets of a beautiful, turn-of-the-century railroad boomtown. You could also visit the Battle of Carthage State Historic Site where the Civil War battle which began nine miles north of Carthage and ended here is memorialized with an interpretive kiosk which explains the battle. The Calaboose is a structure which was built around 1891 to be used as a jail and is the oldest city owned building. It has been a restored to be used as a police substation and a police museum and is on the first floor and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Dickerson Park Zoo – Springfield, Missouri has over 500 animals representative of over 160 species. The zoo is arranged so that there are themed exhibit regions which represent five geographic areas found throughout the world. The The American National Fish & Wildlife Museum in Springfield has about 225 wildlife species of live animals in natural habitats. The adjoining the Hunting and Fishing Galleries have aquariums holding close to 500,000 gallons of water housing over 160 different live animal species. There are also hunting and fishing displays and videos and interactive computer-enhanced exhibits.
