US 60, SR W and SR 17 are the major roads running through Mountain View.

The settlement of Mountain View came about around 1866 when the first store was built here. At the time the people who lived there used a money called a "Klondyke", resembling a metal the mills no longer used and barter since money was in short supply in the area. It was not uncommon for the owner of the store to drive to Rolla in wagons with hogs, he had received in trade, and bring back supplies such as salt, sugar, soda and coffee beans. Each year, Music in the Park is held every Saturday during June and July at the amphitheater in Veterans Park. Attendees are invited to bring chairs or blankets or sit on one of the benches and bring food and drink for a family picnic.
