SR 501 and SR 502 run through Los Alamos and SR 4 runs along the Southernmost extremity of the town.

The Manhattan Project which resulted in the production of the first atomic weapon, was planned here at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Now the LANL deals in supercomputing; material science, national security, biosciences and earth/environmental sciences. The Radio Telescope, at this laboratory, is one of 10 dishes of the Very Long Baseline Array which is part of the National Radio Astronomy Observation. The story of LANL can be learned at the Bradbury Science museum and has various science exhibits in its Defense, Research and History galleries. The city also has ancient village sites of the Anasazi and at the at Bandelier National Monument. These were the homes of the Anasazi who lived in the area for several centuries.
