US 160 makes a sharp turn just about in the center of Forsyth and SR 76 passes through a short distance of the Southern part of town.

In its original location on the shores of the White river, the city welcomed steamboats making it an important river town. The boats would drop off cargo at the town’s docks, which was then reloaded on to smaller boats to go further up river or on wagons to go overland. Around 1861 most settlers in the area were farmers who had come from eastern states. Lake Taneycomo was formed by the erection of Powersite Dam around 1913. When Bull Shoals Lake was created by the new Bull Shoals Dam, the area flooded and the city was forced to move to the bluffs overlooking the river. Shadowrock park and campground is where most of the residents go to enjoy the outdoors. It is located on the shores of Bull Shoals lake and has a playground, tennis courts, picnic areas, boat launch and swimming holes.
