Only one major road runs through Seligman, SR 37 but SR DD enters town from the West and SR 112 enters town from the East.

When the first merchant in town built a home here, around 1838, it was known as Herdsville but was soon renamed to Roller ridge. From 1879 to 1880 the Atlantic and Pacific railroad built a rail line from Pierce City to Seligman replacing the wagons the residents used to haul their grain to Pierce City. The railroad plotted the town which became the temporary terminal point of the Arkansas Division of the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway. It was renamed in honor of an an investment banker and founder of J & W Seligman & Company who immigrated from Baiersdorf, Bavaria and invested in the railroad industry. The arrival of the railroad was good for the economy of the town and people here started to grow peaches, apples, cantaloupe and strawberries and raise livestock.
