SR 14 meets SR 5, Business SR 5 and SR 76 in Ava.

Ava owes its existence to the dissatisfaction of the county court commissioners over the former sites of the county seat. Around 1871, they chose a new location and a name. Around 1876 the town had a population of around 100 and a steam saw, grist mill and three churches. The principal exports were wheat, cotton, hides, wool and furs transported on the A & P railroad. When a railroad spur of the Frisco railroad was constructed to Ava around 1910; trade and development were spurred and tomatoes and timber were exported. There are two parks in Ava, Militia Springs and Ava City, which together have playground equipment, barbecue grills, covered picnic tables, a baseball diamond, soccer field, swimming pool, tennis courts, a multi-purpose trail and picnic pavilion.
