There are a few major roads running through Troy. They are US 61, SR J and SR 47.
ABOUT THE AREA
American Indians first discovered an artesian spring in what today is Troy. Early arrivals in the area built homes, businesses and a fortress near the spring. At the end of the 18th century an army major and two settlers from Vermont built log cabins next to the spring and one of them even constructed a double log house that would later serve as a hotel, a courthouse and a polling place. A grain mill was the areas first business. Taking their lead from a grocer from Ithaca, New York, the citizens of the town for the legendary Greek city in the Trojan War. Troy has four great municipal parks and a new municipal swimming pool. The parks are Fairgrounds, Avery, Weinand and Woods Fort. They combine to provide baseball fields, soccer fields, basketball courts, skating ramps, playgrounds, walking trails, barbecue pits and an historic park area. One of the parks, Weinand, has a statue to the memories of deceased children which is surrounded by memorial bricks at its base.
