ABOUT THE AREA
Just to the East of Winfield lies Lock and Dam No. 25 on the Upper Mississippi River. This lock and dam started operation in the Spring of 1939 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bald eagles can be seen during the Winter months at nearby Sandy Island Bald Eagle sanctuary. At the Bradley Island Public Use area near the dam there are riverside picnic tables and barbeque pits. The Winfield Ferry that connects Lincoln County to Calhoun County, Illinois lies just to the South of this dam.
