Altus District Court is one of the district courts in Ozark district and is held at the Ozark district court facilities. US 64 and SR 186 run through Altus and SR 924 comes up from the South.

Throughout Altus you can find evidence of the heritage of the German-Swiss immigrants who settled here and the art of winemaking. There are four wineries now operating in the area. A colony of German-Swiss immigrants began growing grapes at Altus in the 1870's. They found that the region resembled those areas in Europe conducive to the growth of wine producing grapes. Coal mining was a big part of the economy of Altus in the late 20's and 30's and in the center of the square there is a city park containing memorials to coal mining and veterans.
