ABOUT THE AREA
The state's first governor, James Sevier Conway, came to Arkansas from St. Louis around 1829 as a surveyor and settled on what was called the Long Prairie which is West of the present town of Bradley. He is buried in the family plot of the former Conway home site cotton plantation which is part of Conway Cemetery State Park, an historic site. The family plot lies to the South of the former site of the Conway plantation home called Walnut Hill.
