ABOUT THE AREA
Besides the Main street of Dumas being listed as a commercial historic district on the National Register of Historic Places; the town is home to the Desha County museum. The museum complex is a group of buildings which are representative of life in a typical south Arkansas farming community. Included in the group are the two story Terry log house, with outdoor kitchen, blacksmith shop, potato shed and log dog house and a brick building housing artifacts from the area. The Ding Dong Days festival is held every July and is named for the song "Ding-Dong-Daddy from Dumas" The song is sung at the beginning of each the festival by a a costumed Ding Dong Daddy. The festival includes an Antique Car show, food and crafts booths, Ding Dong Eating contest, Ding Dong Days street dance, Barbeque cook-off and live musical entertainment.
