ABOUT THE AREA
A pleasant residential village of 3500 people, the village of Muttontown is spread over more than 5 square miles. The village was used for rearing sheep in the colonial times and hence the name. The rolling hills and pastures were ideal for sheep, reared mainly for their meat and also for their wool. The village has retained its rural and residential character. Rt 25A and 106 (also called Jericho Oyster Bay Road) run through the village. Muttontown Country Preserve borders Jericho Oyster Bay Road and is just a few feet away from the courthouse area. The village is inundated by majestic estates and country clubs. Pine Hollow Country Club, Tam O-Shanter Country Club and Woodcrest Club are all nearby. Another in a long line of high-income communities on this rather long island.
