COMMENTS
Des Arc District Court is the Prairie County District Court for the Northern district of the county and hears cases related to traffic infractions occurring throughout the Northern district. The Northern district is generally considered to be North of IS 40.
ABOUT THE AREA
A Frenchman is reported to be the earliest settler to the area receiving a Spanish land grant for a tract near the mouth of the Little Red River by declaring that he had lived on the land since about 1789. He was followed by the first U.S. citizens to settle in the area around 1810. Two later settlers who plotted Des Arc around 1848, are considered to be the founders of the town. The Lower White River Museum State Park is the site of a museum. At the entrance to the museum there are life-sized mannequins of important figures in the history of the area. Eight areas of importance to the territory during its frontier days are displayed in the remaining exhibits. These include items representative of transportation, the lifestyle and local industries of the area and war memorabilia. Next to the museum there is a reconstructed late 1800's dogtrot log cabin with outbuildings used as a smoke or potato house and a wash house.
