Mount Ida District Court is the Montgomery County District court. Cases concerning traffic infractions occurring throughout Montgomery county are heard in this court.

With rock shops on the highways in Mount Ida and the surrounding area and the quality and quantity of the quartz crystal deposits found in the surrounding Ouachita Mountains; the town has designated itself as the "Quartz Crystal Capital of the World." There are private quartz mines here which will allow visitors to dig their own crystals for a fee. Just to the East of the city is the close to 40,000 acre Lake Ouachita. The lake is so big that there is plenty of room for fishing, camping, swimming, sailing, water skiing, scuba diving, power boating and even running your houseboat. Sharing the area around the lake are such facilities as private resorts, marinas, campgrounds, swimming beaches and boat launch ramps. It is not unusual to catch a large size striped bass, largemouth bass, catfish, crappie or bream from this lake or even to see a bald eagle in the winter.
