Clinton District Court, a state district court, acting as the district court of Van Buren county hears traffic and misdemeanor cases from throughout the county.

The city of Clinton which became the county seat of Van Buren county around 1834 was first incorporated around 1878. However with no elections taking place for the city, the incorporation was discontinued but revived in 1938 with the election of new officials. The Van Buren County Historical Society museum has exhibits which display memorabilia representative of different periods of the region’s past, including pioneer history, agricultural history and wartime uniforms. The museum also has a Family History room with a collection of family information and family group sheets and research material on Van Buren County. Up to 20,000 come to watch the chuckwagon racing, bronc fanning and the Snowy River Race at the annual National Championship Chuckwagon races held at the Bar o f Ranch in Clinton on Labor Day weekend. Bands are on hand to perform after the races and dances are held Friday and Saturday nights. bands
