COMMENTS
Blackstone Magistrate is a magistrate court in Nottoway county in the Eleventh judicial district of Virginia. At times hearings may be handled by visual presentation.
ABOUT THE AREA
Although no one knows exactly when, most agree that this village was founded before the Revolutionary War. Its name apparently comes from two competing tavern keepers, a Schwartz and a White. Schwartz being the German for black, the village was originally known as Blacks and Whites Taverns and later shortened to Blacks and Whites. In the 1880's the name was changed to Blackstone. Schwartz Tavern, the oldest building in town, is now a museum. The town has been undergoing a restoration with awnings and period lampposts appearing along tree-lined streets similar to the look of the Victorian Era and the revitalization of historical architecturally significant homes and buildings.
