ABOUT THE AREA
The Green Springs National Historic Landmark District is a collection of more than 250 original 18th and 19th century homes, barns and other outbuildings situated on approximately 14,000 acres of agricultural land. Here you can see such significant historical structures as the house at Green Springs Plantation, circa 1772, Glen Burnie and Hawkwood which, although partially damaged in a fire, still remains as an example of a romantic country house, designed as a Tuscan villa. The Louisa Arts center, which is located in the city's town hall, consists of the Purcell Gallery and the Cooke-Haley Theater. These two venues provide a valuable source of culture to the residents of this area. The gallery has on display paintings, sculpture and photography and the theater presents a variety of musical and theatre performances.
